The new DIM (Dimensional Weight) Rule will cost you money. FedEx and UPS package shippers have announced what is likely to be the single largest rate increase on record.

The DIM Weight change will take effect December 29, 2014 for UPS and January 1, 2015 for FedEx. Both carries will be imposing dimensional weight (DIM Weight) rates on ALL ground packages shipped through their services. DIM Weight applies to packages greater than 5,184 cubic inches.

To calculate the DIM Weight of a carton, you take the Length (L) x Width (W) x Height (H)=cubic inches and divide it by 166. (this applies only to cartons greater than 5,184 cubic inches shipping by ground freight). The DIM Weight formula is (L x W x H)/166.
